DE'WAYNE SIMPSON... FULL-TIME ACCESS

So... What can I tell you about me that you don't already know?

I was born and raised in Washington, DC, where I lived primarily until I was seventeen-years-old.  I was raised by my mother, Karen Simpson, and my grandfather, Robert A. Mason.  I lived in several different homes in various neighborhoods throughout my young life.  Things became more stable when I started high school at Archbishop Carroll.  High school was the best time of my life.  I will always take pride in being a Carroll Lion!!!

When I graduated from Carroll, I moved to southern Virginia to attend Hampton University.  After four years, I received my Bachelor's degree in English Arts / Creative Writing.  I lived in Newport News, Virginia for another year before returning home to the Nation's Capital in search of a career in writing.

Immediately, I found a job as a writer/editor for a small magazine, Tax Analysts.  In my spare time, I published several articles for Black Athlete Sports Network, an online publication.  After a couple of years, I moved on to a new opportunity and began teaching for Prince George's County Public Schools.  For the past eight years, I have coached basketball and taught Language Arts to eighth-graders at Charles Carroll Middle School.

In 2007, I published Heavy Is The Crown, a fictional novel loosely based on things I saw, heard and experienced growing up.  A year later, I published my second novel, What Tomorrow May Bring: A Tale of Urban Romance.  With this one I went in a totally different direction, writing a love story from an angle I felt was seldom seen.  Most recently, I published my first novel for a teenage audience, Urban Lullabies, Volume 1: Prince Hawkins.  This is the first in a series of books about a group of kids growing up in the Michigan Park area of NorthEast DC.

Currently I am a resident of Landover, Maryland, eager to take my craft to a new plateau.  I recently became engaged to Kevona Somerville, pictured above with me.  I am now a reporter/columnist for The Examiner, and a blogger on wordpress.com.  You can expect to see much more from me in the near future.
