POSTHUMOUS
By: De’Wayne Simpson
when i die
i wanna look back at the world
and watch all my brothers and sisters
living up to the high expectations
they have set for themselves
i wanna see black women
being treated like the royalty they are
and black men
re-assuming the title "man"
through their words, not their actions
i wanna see little black children
growing up with the utmost respect for life
motivated internally by their thoughts and visions
dominating the school systems in an unprecedented fashion
fully preparing themselves for adulthood and success
i wanna see my son
not saddened by my absence
but driven by my memory
infatuated but not spoiled
by the lifestyle i provided for him
simultaneously following in my footsteps
in his relationship with his son
but most of all
i wanna see the memorial built in my honor
to celebrate all i've done for the black race
to celebrate the contributions i've made to society
to honor the impact i've had on the world
and since i don't know when my time will come
i got a lotta work to do
