TRAPPED
By: De’Wayne Simpson
I'm trapped in the middle
To the left my past
To the right my future
But for now, here I am
Trapped in a job as a leader of the future
Bound by the knowledge of the past I hide from
Trapped between the vision of my own goals
And the restrictions placed on me by the powers that be
Trapped between the boy my mother thinks she raised
And the man that developed from the streets I clung to
Always trapped between the ideal and the real
Simultaneously trapped between love and desire
Trapped by the balance of losing what I have
Or gaining what I might could have
Trapped between right and right now
Trapped between the Lord and the world
Trapped between the law and the Word
Trapped between the state's laws and the street's codes
Trapped eternally between thought and emotion
Trapped like a bullet in the chamber of a pistol
Knowing that I could hurt, wound or kill without a thought or a feeling
Without even being the one to trigger the act
...Trapped
No one knows my soul
No one knows my heart
No one knows my thoughts
Therefore
Logically speaking
While anything could provoke me
No one can stop me
Not even me
That
That alone
Is my biggest fear
