This is the make-up test for Informational Textss. Anyone who scored below 70% on this test is REQUIRED to print this out, retake it, and turn it in to me on or before Monday, March 8th. Anyone who scored 70% or better is allowed to take it to increase his or her grade, but it is not mandatory. This assignment will not be collected after March 8th.
This presentations is designed to teach and review
WRITE TWO ORIGINAL INFORMATIONAL PARAGRAPHS, 5-8 SENTENCES EACH, ABOUT A TOPIC OF YOUR CHOICE. IT WILL BE THE JOB OF YOUR CLASSMATES TO LISTEN AND PICK OUT THE ORGANZIATIONAL PATTERN, THE TOPIC, THE MAIN IDEA, AND TWO SUPPORTING DETAILS.
THEREFORE, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE ALL OF THOSE THINGS ARE RECOGNIZABLE. YOUR PARAGRAPHS MUST HAVE TWO DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONAL PATTERNS.
ON THE FRONT OF YOUR PAGE, WRITE THE PARAGRAPH ON THE TOP, AND THEN THE ANSWERS ON THE BOTTOM. DO THE SAME THING ON THE BACK FOR THE SECOND PARAGRAPH.
This is the presentation on organizational patterns that we began in class on Monday, February 1, 2010. It is the third of four installments from this unit of breaking down informational texts. The first was main idea and supporting details. The second was text features. The fourth will be author's purpose.
This is the homework assignment (bcr) for the night of January 28, 2010.
Parents, please be aware: There is a new home reading log being used for the 3rd and 4th quarters of the school year. It is due on the first class day of every week, and it is worth 100 points. It will still hold them accountable for reading a minimum of four days per week. The first one is due on Monday, February 1, 2010. It will not be accepted more than one day late for any reason other than absence. New sheets will only be given to those students who turn in the one they were given the previous week. Otherwise, it will be their responsibility to print one out.
This is a scaled down dlightly version of the ppt show that we used in class to discuss text features. All of the notes and assignments came from this ppt show.
These are generic questions that you can use to have your child review with any narrative they read. These questions will apply to any writing as long as it is a narrative (a story).
EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT
FOR PEOPLE WHO DID POORLY
ON THE PERSONAL NARRATIVE PROJECT
You will need to buy a small notebook (composition or spiral) to complete this assignment (or create one in a folder, however, I would suggest the first option). The assignment takes twenty days. On one day, the student would write a diary entry that is at least one page long (3 or more paragraphs). On the next day, the student should edit, revise and finalize the entry from the previous day. SO, if I flip through your book, I should see something like the following:
- Day One - edited
- Day One - finalized
- Day Three - edited
- Day Three - finalized
- Day Five - edited
- Day Five - finalized
- etc etc etc
When you finish, there should be at least 10 edited pages and at least 10 finalized pages. I will be paying attention STRONGLY to the job you've done editing your entries... These will NOT be accepted after Friday, January 8, 2010...
| This is the work from December 4th. It is a powerpoint presentation about elements of writers' styles, and the classwork and homework that accompanied it. First mod was not assigned the last page. | This is the classwork and homework for the honor's class for 12-4-09 |
This assignment was given to all students on Wednesday, December 2. It is a short story with SEVERAL questions relatd to all of the skills we have been practicing in class lately. There is also a BCR attached at the end.
Something different from the usual... We watched an episode of Family Ties in order to discuss internal/external conflict and theme. The episode can be found by clicking here: WATCH SHOW AGAIN To the left, you will find the powerpoint presentation used on theme and the assignment given on November 24th about the story.
This is a generic book completion form. One of these needs to be filled out for every book you read. If a book is more than 250 pages, you need to write the page count on the form... Thank you Mirna Bonilla for scanning this for me and your classmates.
